Maryann Flock’s artistic philosophy is to bring the best to the audience and to bring out the best in her ensembles. Her audiences have included the residents of the Misericordia Home in Chicago, and pre-lecture concert audiences for Pres. George and Barbara Bush, Colin Powell, and Julie Andrews.
Ms. Flock’s conducting has been strongly admired by the musicians with whom she works. She keeps a quick pace during rehearsals. She is gracious to the musicians, yet very firm in the need for artistic integrity in the music. Her colleagues comment that she is very concise at communicating musical information, so that the special needs of the ensemble are met in an effective rehearsal setting.
Ms. Flock has a flourishing career as a professional musician in the Chicagoland area. She has served as conductor and educator of numerous ensembles over the years. She is the founding director of the DuPage area New Horizons Band. Currently, she is on the music faculty at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills. She served as director of musical ensembles at Benedictine University in Lisle and as music director of the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has taught general music and choir in the Maywood, Illinois and Lake Station, Indiana school districts. An enthusiast of all music, Ms. Flock has worked with the International Workshops in Graz, Austria, Da Corneto Opera Company, Naperville Summerplace Theatre and the Choral Ensemble of Chicago. She is the inaugural recipient of Benedictine’s Distinguished Music Faculty Honor. Ms. Flock holds degrees from Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana and from Illinois State University.
